NEW DELHI: The menace of monkeys around the Delhi Legislative Assembly complex has become a nuisance, MLAs of Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party have claimed.
"Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta urged Delhi Assembly Speaker to urgently take effective steps to check the menace caused by monkeys in the premises of the Assembly. He said that incidents of monkey bite and injuries caused due to their terror have reached gigantic proportions," a statement from the party noted.
Gupta said, "The workers whitewashing the rooftop were chased by monkeys and they had to run away to save themselves. In the process, one worker fell directly from the roof, while three workers managed to catch him and subsequently fell on the ground. All four were injured. The worker who fell directly had to be hospitalised."
He also urged Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to find a lasting and effective solution to rid residential, commercial and official areas off the monkey menace.
Taking cognisance of the problem, the Delhi Assembly had earlier decided to seek the help from the civic bodies, to keep monkeys in check and allow MLAs work without fear of being bitten by them.
