NEW DELHI: Urban Development Minister Satyender Jain asked BJP-led municipal corporations the reasons for delay in holding elections to Town Vending Committee. Delhi vendors are being harassed by the police, local bodies and various other departments, he said. The Delhi Minister has written a letter to civic bodies and asked the reasons for the delay in holding Vending Committee Elections. "It is unfortunate that the constitution of the Town Vending Committee has already been delayed considerably and still being delayed for non-plausible reasons," said the minister in a letter.
"A lot of people from various areas all over Delhi are visiting at the Chief Miniter residence as well as the undersigned everyday and narrating their plight about how they are being harassed by police," Jain said.
The AAP government had on January 10 amended rules and schemes for implementation of Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2017. Lieutenant-Governor has already approved the rules after several rounds of vetting.
