New Delhi: In a move to address waterlogging problems on the Rohtak Road between Nangloi Metro Station and Tikri border, Public Works Department (PWD) minister Atishi has initiated a comprehensive redesign plan for the 11-kilometre road stretch.
Atishi conducted a review meeting on Sunday, to assess the progress and strategise the road’s redevelopment, focusing on improving the drainage system.
During the meeting, Atishi emphasised the need to revamp the drainage system, as inadequate drainage has been the root cause of waterlogging and road damage along this stretch.
She stated, “To mitigate waterlogging on the road, the existing drain will also be redesigned, and the outfall of the drain will be repaired.” This plan includes connecting the outfall of the main road drain with three major channels to prevent waterlogging issues in the future. Furthermore, the project incorporates the desilting of existing drains along the road stretch, ensuring better water flow and reducing the risk of flooding. The improvements to the drainage system are expected to benefit residents of colonies in Nangloi, Mundka, Ghevra, and Tikri areas, as well as ease traffic congestion for commuters travelling between Haryana and Delhi.
Atishi underlined the importance of strengthening the road itself. She emphasized, “Recarpeting work is necessary to strengthen the road along with the drainage system, ensuring a jam-free road where vehicles can move smoothly.” The project aims to provide a hassle-free experience for all road users. In addition to improving the functionality of the road, the project includes enhancements to road aesthetics and pedestrian-friendliness. Atishi instructed officials to make the road more accommodating for pedestrians through specialized methods, focusing on horticulture and footpath improvements. This will not only enhance the overall look of the road but also contribute to the convenience and safety of pedestrians.
Atishi expressed the government’s commitment to providing world-class roads to the residents of Delhi, stating, “Delhi government is diligently working to fulfill CM Arvind Kejriwal’s vision to provide world-class roads to all Delhi residents. The comprehensive redesigning plan for the Rohtak Road stretch underlines this commitment and aims to make travel in the area smoother and more enjoyable for all.”
