New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) teachers will hold a demonstration in front of Delhi Education minister Atishi’s residence on November 7 to ensure their demands are heard.
Shikshak Nyay Manch Nagar Nigam Chairman Kuldeep Singh Khatri addressed a letter to Delhi’s Education minister to raise the demands on behalf of the teachers of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday.
According to it, 17,478 permanent and 1,500 contractual teachers along with their retired colleagues will hold a demonstration in front of Atishi’s residence on November 7 from 9 am.
Some of the demands being raised include restoration of cashless facilities for retired teachers, implementation of Teachers’ Charter in all zones, all basic facilities to be made available in schools before any surprise inspection, number of cleaning staff should be proportional to students admitted and the number of rooms in the school.
“Teachers should be made available in schools by implementing the student teacher ratio as per RTE 2009. Contract teachers should be appointed till permanent appointment is made. At present, 2.5 per cent of the posts of Corporation teachers and 30 per cent for principals are vacant, while it is necessary for lakhs of students. It is a major obstacle in the quality of education,” added Khatri.
The letter contained 22 issues in total, which have been continuously raised by MCD teachers to the authorities. They had held a demonstration in front of Civic
Centre on October 9 to force the Education Department to take action.
The protest went on till they were called for a meeting at Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal’s office in the presence of MCD in-charge Durgesh Pathak, Leader of the House Mukesh Goyal, Corporation councillors Mukesh Kumar and Jasbir, along with Iqbal himself.
“In the meeting held after the protest, it was discussed that within 2-3 days, the Education minister and the Mayor would hold discussions with the Education Department and the organisation will be called for a meeting with the Education minister and the Director of Education. But after waiting for a long time and not seeing any result, we are now forced to come to your doorstep for justice,” wrote Khatri while addressing the minister.
