New Delhi: In an anti-encroachment drive, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday removed illegal constructions over drains in the Mahila Colony of Krishna Nagar ward, under Shahdara South Zone. The encroachments had been causing serious obstruction to emergency services, with ambulances unable to pass through the area during critical situations, it stated in the press release.
The operation was carried out under Deputy Commissioner Badal Kumar, following a request by former Standing Committee Chairman and local councillor Sandeep Kapoor. MCD teams, equipped with JCB machines and trucks, demolished unauthorised structures built atop drains from Mahila Colony to Gandhi Nagar.
Councillor Kapoor highlighted that the area houses four girls’ schools, and the encroachments had not only posed a safety risk for students but also hampered cleanliness and sanitation. During the drive, DC Badal Kumar was present on-site,
accompanied by Gandhi Nagar councillor Priya Kamboj, Assistant Commissioner Ashwini Kumar, license inspectors,
sanitation workers, and engineering staff.
