Ghaziabad: A huge cloud of smoke billowing from a market in Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad suddenly sent everyone on alert as a massive fire broke out at a four storey commercial complex on early Wednesday morning.
Fire officials said that the fire started from a departmental store at the ground floor and the flames spread to upper floors of the building.
According to police officials, a PCR call was received at around 7 am regarding fire at a building located in C-Block market of Kavi
Nagar.
Police said that the fire broke out at VDH departmental store at ground floor and by the time, fire tenders were pressed into action, the restaurants at upper floor of the building were trapped in the flames.
"Nearly a dozen fire tenders rushed to the spot for rescue operation."
" The flames were doused after three hours of rescue operation while all the employees present in the building were safely evacuated. No casualty was reported in the fire, however, goods worth lakhs turned to ashes due to fire" said Rajkumar Sharma, Station House Officer at Kavi Nagar police station.
Meanwhile fire officials said that the fire broke out due to a short circuit at the store on ground floor.
"The fire broke out due to short circuit in departmental store located on the ground floor and soon it reached to two restaurants on first and second floor of the building. However, we are still investigating to know the exact reason which triggered fire" said a senior fire officer at Ghaziabad fire station.
