Mandoli Jail bans single-use plastic

New Delhi: Prisons Department on Friday took an initiative to minimize the usage of single-use plastic and set up 15 Mother Dairy Integrated containers (IC) of 200 litres capacity for dispensing milk to inmates, in different jails in Mandoli.

Mother Dairy was also part of the initiative. The ICs were inaugurated by Sandeep Goel, DG (P) along with Sangram Chaudhary, Managing Director, Mother Dairy. "By this the initiative, Mandoli Prisons Complex has discontinued use of about 5,000 poly packs of ½ liters per day instead of approximately 2,500 litres milk would now be dispensed through these Integrated Containers," said a statement by Delhi Prisons.

Inaugurating the ICs, Goel said that similar effort will be replicated soon in other Jail complexes in Tihar and Rohini. The initiative has been taken to make the prison environment-friendly.

In addition to this, Mandoli Prison have also discontinued single-use plastic pack usage in bakery products for in-house consumption. These bakery items are now being supplied in reusable containers.
