New Delhi: According to the first post-mortem of the three deceased girls conducted at Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital, the minor sisters in east Delhi's Mandawali died of 'malnutrition' and related complications, Delhi Police on Wednesday said.
Cops investigating the mysterious deaths of the three girls have initiated inquest procedings and are now on the lookout for their father, who is on the run. The post-mortem report effectively states that the girls were starved to death.
The three sisters, Mansi (8), Shikha (4) and Parul (2), were admitted to LBS Hospital by their mother and her husband's friend Narayan on Monday, where doctors declared them brought dead.
However, the hospital found the deaths suspicious and immediately informed the police. Delhi Police then sent the bodies for post-mortem.
"Later, a team of three doctors was formed to conduct the second autopsy at GTB Hospital. The viscera report is still awaited. We have started the inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC and are trying to look for their father Mangal, who is still untraceable," said DCP (East) Pankaj Singh. The bodies were handed over to the family on Wednesday evening for last rites.
Cops said that the family belongs to West Bengal and their father is a rickshaw-puller.
Sources in the police added that earlier too, Mangal had gone missing for a few days.
On Monday night, when Mangal's friend Narayan visited their rented accommodation, he found the girls lying unconscious and immediately he got them admitted to LBS Hospital in east Delhi.
However, doctors became suspicious when the girls' initial post-mortem revealed 'malnutrition' and related complication as the cause of death, suggesting that the girls were staved to death.
Meawhile, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday tweeted that a magistrate-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident. In a follow-up tweet, Sisodia added he will visit the victims' house on Thursday morning.
