NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man walked up to the police station and told police that he has slit the throat of his daughter-in-law and the body is lying at the house. The reason he gave was the argument over fixing a bulb at their house in central Delhi''s Paharganj. The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Neeraj, who was a housewife. According to the police, the incident took place on Tuesday night.
The woman had allegedly removed the bulb that was initially fixed by her father-in-law. The woman often had fights with her in-laws over her husband who lives separately and hardly visited them in the last seven years. On Tuesday night, however, the issue over fixing the bulb and dinner escalated further and led to an altercation which led to the murder, a senior police officer said.
She had a kitchen knife with her. To avoid any untoward incident, Bhagatram (65) tried snatching the knife from her, but in the process, he ended up slitting her throat, the officer said. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead, the officer said.
After the incident, Bhagatram went to the police station, surrendered himself and narrated the whole incident. A police team was immediately rushed to his house and the body was examined by the crime team. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared brought dead. The woman was staying with her in-laws and 10-year-old son in Paharganj while the husband lives in Gurugram where he works in a private power firm. The couple has been involved in a divorce battle and the woman had also filed a domestic violence case against her husband.
