Man kills self by jumping in front of train at Jangpura Metro station

New Delhi: A man committed suicide by jumping before a running Delhi Metro train on Friday, affecting services on the Violet Line briefly, officials said. Due to this incident the nearly half an hour train services were disrupted.

According to a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official, the deceased was identified as 23-year-old Mayur Sharma, a resident of Sadiq Nagar in south Delhi, who jumped in front of an approaching Metro train at Jangpura station thourgh platform no-1 moving towards Badarpur.

Later, Delhi Metro Rail Police reached the spot and the deceased body was taken to AIIMS Trauma centre by ambulance, a CISF official said.

The man jumped on the tracks at the Jangpura metro station, disrupting services on the Central Secretariat-Faridabad section.

Services were restored and become normal after 2.17 pm.

"A man jumped in front of an approaching train at Jangpura on Line-6 heading towards Badarpur around 1:56 pm," DMRC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a portion of a pavement outside the underground Greater Kailash metro station caved in early Friday due to accumulation of water after heavy rainfall.
