Man from J&K visited Delhi several times to steal laptops

New Delhi: A 32-year-old man, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, was arrested from Paharganj in Delhi on Wednesday. Police claimed that the accused person used to come to Delhi from Srinagar and stay in various hotels in Paharganj area for 20-25 days at the stretch. After having stolen several laptops, he returned to Srinagar for supplying and selling these to a receiver in Srinagar.

The accused identified as Raqib Ahmad, is a resident of Srinagar. The accused person used to operate in particularly crowded areas like the food court in metro stations, bus stands, railway stations, college library and various restaurants in Delhi, Gurugram and Noida.

Accused has been committing theft since last nine years. The accused person is previously involved in many cases of laptop theft. He watches the customers who are busy in talking or other activities and taking benefit of this steals their laptop with the bag.

During interrogation, the accused person also disclosed that he had supplied a bulk of stolen laptops to a receiver in Srinagar named Wahid. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) Deepak Gauri stated that apart from these, he has confessed to have committed around 20-25 laptop thefts in 2016, 2017 and 2018 each in the Metro and outside.

The data on the crime situation in Delhi Metro claimed that in 2018 (11 June), around 2,335 cases through e-fir has been registered while through normal FIR around 178 cases have been reported.
