Man attacks family with iron rod; daughter dies

New Delhi: A 22-year-old girl died after she was attacked by her father with an iron rod in South Delhi's Sangam Vihar area on Tuesday. Police claimed that they have arrested the accused who was depressed over his poverty due to which her daughters were not getting married. In the incident, another daughter of the accused and his wife sustained critical injuries.

According to police, the incident came to light on Tuesday morning around 5 when they received a PCR call regarding the incident in Sangam Vihar area and found three of the family with critical wounds on their heads. The victims were rushed to the hospital. One girl identified as Kavita was declared brought dead. During the investigation, the police came to know that the attacker who was her father. "He did not flee after committing the crime and later he was arrested from South Delhi," said one investigator.

The accused was identified as 55-year-old Nand Kishore who lived with his family in Sangam Vihar area. The police claimed that the incident was not pre-planned and it happened suddenly in the morning when the accused took an iron rod and started attacking her daughters and wife who were asleep.

"The victims were crying in pain and during the attack, one of his sons saw him and tried to stop but he also received injuries," said the police officer. A PCR call was made to alert the policemen. The accused also went to hospital to check the victims.

While one daughter died but another one identified as 24-year-old Suman and her mother Vidyavati are critically injured and receiving treatment in ICU of the hospital.

The police claimed that during questioning, the accused told them that he was living in depression for last five days as the family was economically weak and they did not have money to marry off her two daughters so he committed the act. The accused repairs bicycles in Sangam Vihar. A case under 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered at Sangam Vihar.
