New Delhi: Manjeet Karketa, one of the accused who chopped the 16-year-old Jharkhand girl's body into several pieces, told the investigators that the deceased maid was a source of income for him and he tried to dissuade her from leaving Delhi but she did not listen which resulted in her killing.
Police claimed that they have conducted the raids in two states, which share borders, to nab the remaining accused. Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights(JSCPCR) will be sending eight members team to Delhi for the probe in the case.
The accused Karketa is suspected to be the placement agency owner which is being investigated by the police. Two of his associates including one woman are till absconding and raids are being conducted in different states. Police claimed that the associates were also present at the crime spot.
According to police, it all started on March 19, when the minor girl returned to Kerketta and told him that she would not work any more as the maid. The accused took all the money from her employer.
"Kerketta told the girl that in Delhi, it is not safe to keep the money so I am keeping it, this was some of the allurement which was adopted by the accused," said the police officer. The girl who was a resident of Lapung, close to Gumla in Jharkhand, did not get full money for her work as all the money was taken by the accused.
With the time, the girl repeatedly kept asking Kerketta that she wanted to go home with the money so that she can feed her poor family and do not want to live here but the accused were seeing the loss and if the girl went home they could have not only lost the money which she was getting from her job but also the three years payment which was kept with the accused for several years. "The murder planning started from there and on the day of the incident she was first hit by frying pan," said the police officer.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar said the accused chopped the body into many pieces and then waited for the night. "They packed the body into polybags in such a way that if somebody sees they will think that they are going somewhere with some bags," said the police officer adding that the accused were not able to disfigure the face which gave the first clue to the police.
The incident took place at Bhooton Wali Gali in Nangloi. The residents only came to know after policemen started their search in their area. "More than 40 policemen with a photo of the girl started the search; they also pasted a poster with the deceased photo in the area," said Anshu, who runs an eatery nearby the area.
Another resident stated that he was not aware of them living in the area it was after the murder when they came to know that the girl was living here with the accused. "We are investigating about the documents which were given by the accused to take the house on rent," said the police officer.
More than 500 houses were searched in Delhi and in Jharkhand, around five villages were checked through which the identity of the accused and deceased was cleared.
"After the incident, Kerketta went to Jharkhand. He came back to Delhi as he was confident that he would not be arrested but he was nabbed," said police.
