A day after 13-year-old Ajay died after an iron gate fell on him in Neb Sarai, his family and residents of Tigri took to the streets to hold protests. During the protest, they kept his body on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road which was blocked for hours on Thursday.

The South Delhi road witnessed a gathering of thousand people surrounding Ajay's body, raising slogans demanding.

On Wednesday, the boy died after a heavy iron gate collapsed on him and another boy. The sharp iron grill pierced Ajay's head, leading to his instant death. The other child is undergoing treatment.

"We are ruined. I am a poor man and I want justice. Whosoever is guilty should be brought to the book. I demand action against those responsible for installing a rusted iron gate at the colony entrance which took the life of my child," said Ajay's bereaved father Raju.

The family, accompanied by the neighbours after the post-mortem, took Ajay's body from the hospital and headed straight to the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road to hold the protest.

"How am I going to survive without my child? Their negligence took away my child. I want them punished," said his inconsolable mother Sugna.

Traffic came to a near standstill and cops faced major challenges in controlling the infuriated residents. The crowd dispersed after cops assured them of proper and necessary action, after which Ajay's last rites were performed. Ajay resided in the JJ camp, Tigri, with his parents. The injured boy Vivek is also a resident of the same area. Locals said that the iron gate was rusted and the resident welfare association did not conduct needed checks before installation.

"We are investigating who installed the gate and whose negligence it is. Proper action would be taken," said Additional DCP, South, Chinmoy Biswal.
