New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old auto driver was brutally stabbed by four juveniles after an altercation over night charges in CP on Sunday night. While one of the suspects was caught near the crime spot and thrashed by the public before being handed over to the police, three others were caught by the police later.

All of them are juveniles between the age group of 16 to 17 years. The weapon of offence has also been recovered.

"Four boys hired the auto of the deceased from Khanpur to Connaught Place and on the way they entered into a dispute with the deceased on the issue of extra charges for night hours and extra passenger which resulted into the stabbing to the deceased," DCP New Delhi Madhur Verma said.

The four accused fled the scene after leaving the auto driver Jahangir Alam in a pool of blood. He resided in Jamia Nagar and was originally from Malda, West Bengal. The passerby made a mobile video of the victim in which he told that he was stabbed by passengers. The police said that they rushed the injured man to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, about 2 km away, where he died during treatment.

The man who called up the police said he saw the auto rickshaw driver running towards him and was bleeding. Later, a group of men apprehended the accused who were running towards Balwant Mehta Lane near Tilak Marg. He was thrashed before being handed over to the cops. An automatic button knife was recovered from his possession.

All the four accused are from Dakshinpuri. Police said that they were aimlessly going to Connaught place and also diverted the routes during the journey.

"They earlier booked the auto for India Gate but then asked the auto driver to divert to Connaught Place. It seems they were out for some mischief and when they saw the auto driver asking for night charges as it was already 11 pm, they decided to take him down," said an officer.

"This is shocking for me. I am not able to come out of this horrific incident. He was a poor man and was the only earning member in the family. His family is ruined by his death," said Jahangir's maternal uncle.
