New Delhi: Aiming to reduce vehicular pollution and increase ease of commuting, Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday inaugurated an e-rickshaw service that will ply on three routes on the campus. A commuter will have to pay Rs 10 for each ride.
A total of 10 e-rickshaws will be operational on three routes from Tuesday to connect all residential areas, hostels, shopping complexes, library, academic buildings and all the exit gates. These e-rickshaws will ply from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm. "The service provider will be charging Rs 10 per ride per person. To promote women entrepreneurship and gender-friendly ambiance on the campus, in the coming months all vehicles will be driven by female drivers," the VC said after flagging off the vehicles.
