Jewar Airport: GBN admin sends proposal to UP govt

Greater Noida: The Gautam Buddh Nagar District Administration on Wednesday sent a proposal to Uttar Pradesh Government regarding the acquisition for the first phase construction of proposed International Airport at Jewar which will be second in Delhi-NCR, said officials. B N Singh, District Magistrate, Gautam Buddh Nagar said that the proposal is for acquisition of 1,334 hectare land which is required for first phase construction of the airport.

"In the first phase, around 1,239 hectare land from six villages of Jewar area-Rohi, Dayanatpur, Parohi, Kishorepur, Ranhera and Banwari Baans will be acquired by the state government and due compensation to the land owners, who are farmers. The remaining 94 hectare land in the region already belongs to the government," said Singh.

The officer added that after examining the proposal, the state government will issue a notification of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 for acquisition of the land.

"A total of 5,000 hectares of land is to be acquired for the green field airport estimated worth Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 crore. We have taken over 70 per cent consent for land acquisitions from land owners for the project, which is required as per law to proceed with the acquisition of land. All formalities have been completed at the district level and a proposal has been sent to the state government," Singh said.

Singh also added that the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) and the Social Impact Management Plan (SIMP) for the affected region have already been approved by the government.

According to the SIA report, 5905 families will be impacted by the project and out of the these 5,007 are farmers' families while 898 are landless families. "Around 1,775 families from three villages –Rohi, Dayanatpur, Kishorepur –may be rehabilitated due to the project. A total of 4,235 of the total families have given their consent for the project, around 72 per cent, which fulfils the requisite legalities of at least 70 per cent consent for carrying out any such land acquisition," a senior officer said.
