In Cricket World Cup, punters using hi-end technology for betting this year

New Delhi: This year, betting in Cricket World Cup is more organised as punters are now using hi-end technology for earning more money. Delhi Police on Friday said that two persons were arrested from Timarpur area for their involvement in betting.

The investigating agency found that the two men were using betting assistant I-Book software. They were also getting ball-to-ball betting rates. Police identified the accused as Harminder (30) and Gurdeep (32).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Nupur Prasad said that they were arrested on the basis of secret information regarding betting on cricket world cup in the area of Nehru Vihar.

"Further investigation is going on in the case," added DCP North.

The investigators in the case revealed that they were running well-organised high-tech betting through software named Betting Assistant I-Book software installed in the laptop for entry of data. They were also using the hotline mobile phones for live gambling.

"The accused were getting ball by ball details and updated betting rates through hotlines. The same was communicated to other bookies with whom they were in contact through phones," police said.

The investigators further added that when someone placed the bet, the accused quickly noted down the money details in the software and further mailed it to another person.

"The software is like an excel sheet. They typed the betting money and within seconds, they forwarded it to the other persons. Through the software, they easily got clear details of money and the details of the person who placed a bet," added investigator.

Police further stated that they started the racket as soon as Cricket World Cup started.

Ten mobile phones, two diaries, cash Rs. 10,500 were among the things recovered during the raid. Investigations are being made to trace their source of information about betting rates and his clients.

The accused used to take lines/information about rate of betting from an associate of the kingpin, who collects betting amount from him. The team of Special Staff (north) under Inspector Sunil Kumar made the arrest of the accused.

Man murdered in South Avenue

In another incident, Delhi Police on Friday said that a 50-year-old man was murdered in a servants' quarter at Delhi's South Avenue area, which houses residences of Members of Parliament. The investigating agency said that the deceased had lost money in gambling. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said that they were alerted about the incident from deceased's children and his wife.
