New Delhi: All 13 police stations Malkhanas of South-East Delhi now digitized which made them the first district of the country to achieve this feat. The following initiative was taken under smart policing and Swacch Bharat. On August 3, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik inaugurated the 'e-Malkhana' project of South East district at a programme held at Sarita Vihar police station complex, by the simple click of a button. CP inaugurated the 'e-malkhana project' of all the other 12 police stations via a live video feed.

Reported first by Millennium Post on May 19, three police stations in the district were digitized under a pilot project which began in December 2017. The malkhanas of all 13 police stations were digitized by the end of June 2018.

On the occasion, Patnaik said when he joined Delhi Police, the system of malkhana management prevalent was complex. "The new technology will bring efficiency and comfort in the policing system. He termed the new 'e-Malkhana' project as a revolutionary step. The hard work of DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal as well as outgoing additional DCP Hareshwar Swami, the man behind the whole initiative, was appreciated.

"Details of the case property are first entered into the software, followed by uploading of its photograph. The case property is packed in a cardboard box to prevent damage, and a unique barcode is generated which is pasted on the box," said DCP Biswal. The box is then placed onto a specific almirah or rack whose details are entered in the software. This makes the location of the case property easier by simply entering details of the case property in the software module. The software also allows the details of any case property being visible at a the simple click of a button. Under this project, South East district has digitized all the 13 police station malkhanas having over 24,000 case properties in total.
