I have only love for Modi: Rahul on attack at his father Rajiv Gandhi

NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that despite Narendra Modi insulting his father Rajiv Gandhi, he only had love for the Prime Minister. Gandhi was addressing a public meeting at Delhi's Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency. Prominent others present were AICC in-charge of Delhi P C Chacko, working president Haroon Yusuf, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Mangat Ram Singhal, District presidents Mohammed Usman, Hari Kishan Jindal, all former MLAs and Municipal Councillors.

"Narendra Modi insulted a martyr (Rajiv Gandhi), no matter how much hatred he has for my family, I only have love for him," Gandhi said.

At a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, Modi had targeted the former prime minister, while attacking the Congress president. "Your father was termed Mr Clean by his courtiers, but his life ended as bhrashtachari no 1," Modi had said, drawing sharp reactions and criticisms from opposition leaders. Modi targeted Rajiv Gandhi on Monday as well, asking the Congress to fight the elections in the name of the "Bofors-accused" former prime minister.

At the rally, the Congress chief also spoke about the minimum income guarantee promise, the party's poll plank, and said it will boost the country's economy. "'Nyay' scheme will give boost to Delhi and country's economy," he said. Gandhi further said with a clear voice that "Narendra Modi Ji we are going to defeat you on 23 May, and may be because of that you have become so scared that you are insulting a martyred leader who is respected the world over".

Gandhi said that nothing can be gained in the world through hatred, "but you have gone far too ahead on the road to hatred". He assured Modi that the Congress party will not hate him at a personal level. He said that the Congress party believes in a political battle based on issues and wins the battle. Gandhi said that educated people live in Delhi and they have very well understood your wrong doings. You have destroyed them through demonetization and GST, and I get complaints on these matters on a daily basis.

He said that the kind of hatred the people of Delhi nurse against the BJP will have to be borne by you Modiji. Rahul Gandhi assured the youth and traders of Delhi that the Congress party will come to power at the Centre and then they will get relief from the terrible suffering they underwent under the Modi Government. He said that the Congress party will chart out a new path in which every one will get justice, and new development route will be opened.
