Gurugram: Reckless driving resulting in the loss of lives on city roads was again witnessed in Gurugran after a private school bus mowed down a husband and wife who were travelling on their bicycle. The incident occurred in Sector-44. The horrific situation and the extreme pain caused can be gauged from the fact that the overspeeding bus apparently dragged the victims a few metres after hitting their bicycle.

While the husband who is identified as Gyassudin died on the spot, his wife who has been ascertained as Anju died in the hospital. The incident occurred at around 7 am when the DPS Sector-45 school bus was going to bring the school children. The couple were also going to report for the duty.

According to the police, the driver of the bus identified as Kuldeep was driving at a high speed and could not apply his brake on time and hit the bicycle from behind causing the tragic mishap. After the incident crowds of angry people descended on the busy road and ransacked the school bus.

They demanded not only action against the errant school bus driver but also protested against the extreme police apathy who they claimed did not react on time and saved the couple.

"This is the case of police apathy. This could have passed off as just another accident where the victim's death would not have been taken note by the authorities had we not protested and blocked the road. The couple has left two children. Who is responsible for their future," said Pramod, one of the protestors.

Meanwhile, the Gurgram police has registered a case under the relevant sections and also arrested the driver. "It is unfortunate that careless driving has again resulted in the loss of a life. Even though the anger is justified we hope that the relatives keep calm and let the law take its course from hereon," said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

In a worrying trend in less than a week, there has been three incident where a school bus has been involved in a major accident in and around the city.
