New Delhi: A homeless man died after he was crushed under the wheel of a private bus in Sarai Rohilla area in North Delhi. Police have registered a case in this regard and arrested the bus driver.
According to police, the incident took place on the morning of October 3. The complainant in the case, another homeless man told police that he saw a person sitting on the street from the night of October 2.
"In the morning around 7 am, the person was going towards a temple. A bus drove at high speed hit him. He was under the wheels of the bus," the complainant told police.
The complainant further added that the driver stopped the bus. He pulled the victim from the tyres and later fled the spot.
Later some person informed police regarding the incident. The victim was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to police, the complainant in his statement added that the driver of the offending vehicle regularly parks his bus near the spot. A case under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 (Punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Police added during the investigation of the case they scanned the CCTV footages of the nearby area
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Monika Bharadwaj told Millennium Post that they have arrested the accused bus driver, who has been identified as Sonu (25), a native of Bulandshahar area.
"The offending vehicle which was involved in the incident was hired by a company for their employees," police said.
The investigation further revealed that the accused was driving the bus rash and negligently which resulted in the incident.
In another case reported in North West Delhi, a 26-year-old man died after he was hit by a tanker. The deceased was the native of Uttar Pradesh.
