NEW DELHI: It requires a lion's heart to take on armed robbers, holding a man captive on the roadside at knifepoint. Fortunately, Head Constable Manoj posted at Sarojini Nagar police station is one with such as heart.
The brave cop single-handedly fought off a gang of snatchers and saved an innocent man from being robbed in south Delhi.
On July 11, around 6 am, the head constable was on his motorcycle going to Sarojini Nagar police station from his residence in Malviya Nagar.
As he passed by the gate of Police Training School, Malviya Nagar, he noticed that some miscreants on two-wheelers were trying to rob a pedestrian of his belongings and were holding him captive at knifepoint.
"There were two options: either I should call for help and wait for reinforcement to arrive or confront them single-handedly. I chose the latter. I knew it was risky but the man being robbed needed immediate help.
"I took them on and, fortunately, caught hold of one of them while the other managed to flee," Manoj said. The other accused were apprehended later, after the interrogation of the accused that Manoj caught.
The brave act of the head constable has been noticed by senior police officers.
"This was truly an act of bravery where our policeman single-handedly caught the armed accused. We have managed to solve seven cases of robbery and snatching in the area," Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya said on Wednesday.
