Gurugram: With traffic jams, pollution and mishaps becoming a major challenge in Gurugram, the district authorities have decided to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles in the city.
Trucks carrying essential commodities will have to now seek permission from the law enforcement officials to move into the city beyond the stipulated time.
Under this initiative, specific time slots have been allotted for the movement of heavy vehicles. According to the new schedule, trucks will now ply from 11 am to 4 pm during the day time and 9 pm to 7 am during the evening time. This time schedule, however, has been relaxed keeping in view of lean traffic in the city. Certain posh areas of the city like Civil Lines along with 10 other areas have been made no-entry zone for the trucks.
The Gurugram district administration has taken cognisance of the deadly accidents in the city and has started devising plans to prevent loss of lives. Mostly, heavy vehicles and cantors are responsible for deadly mishaps occurring in the city. In 2017, 481 lives were lost due to accidents on the city roads. Commuters on two-wheelers and pedestrians were the most the vulnerable group among the victims. Besides setting rules on the movement of vehicles, the Gurugram police has also deputed over 300 traffic cops to manage the traffic in the city.
Citing indiscipline among commuters as a major reason for traffic jams at MG Road, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and police recently set speed limits for all vehicles passing through Mall Mile.
