Govt announces pilgrimage scheme for Delhi's elderly

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Thursday announced the Mukhya Mantri Tirath Yatra Yojna, under which 1,100 senior citizens from every constituency of the Capital will be offered free of cost travel packages for five key religious circuits across India.

"Benefitting from the scheme, 77000 senior citizens can travel to destinations like Vaishno Devi, Haridwar, Amritsar, Ajmer, Agra among many others, commencing mid- December, 2018," a statement by DTTDC said.

To facilitate seamless coordination for the Mukhya Mantri Tirath Yatra Yojna, Delhi Tourism Transportation Development Corporation Ltd (DTTDC) signed an MoU with the Indian Railways and Catering Tourism Corporation, in the presence of Deputyy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday.

According to the DTTDC statement, five religious sectors have been selected for the scheme, and charted non-AC trains will take the senior citizens in each train.
