Girl commits suicide inside police post, 4 cops face heat

New Delhi: A 17-year-old girl died by hanging herself inside a police post in Tilak Vihar area of West Delhi. Four police personnel including a woman constable, who were there at the spot, were either sent to district line or suspended after a detailed probe.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar stated that the victim lived with her family in West Delhi area. The incident was reported on Saturday late night when the girl was sitting in another room and committed suicide by hanging her self from the fan. "In the suicide matter, sub-inspector Parvesh Kaushik in charge outpost Tilak Vihar and woman constable Manmohan Kaur have been sent to district line. Assistant Sub Inspector Sushil Kumar and Duty Writer K Badhoriya are suspended. All failed to perform their duties properly due to that girl found a chance and committed suicide," said the DCP.

He further added that the incident started after a fight between two families –deceased and their neighbour. "During the investigation, both the family had a fight on Saturday and were taken to police station," said the police officer. They were brought to Tilak Vihar police post where both families were questioned. One of the person from other family member stated that she knew the girl and they were friends. Meanwhile, the girl had also reached the police station where she witnessed both the families. "The girl claimed that during the fight between two families she was also beaten up, she left her house as she was frightened," said the police official.

At the police post, the girl was sitting in another room when again argument broke out between the two families. The girl, who was alone, hanged herself from the ceiling fan.

"The girl told us that she did not want to go home after the incident," said the police official.

The family member of the deceased claimed that her sister was harassed by her neighbours. The victim's brother also alleged that he told policemen that her sister would commit suicide but no one listened. "She was a minor girl and was studying in class 12 and had to face regular harassment by the neighbours," said the brother of the deceased.
