Gurugram: On the part of strengthening the security system in the city with the Independence Day around the corner, Gurugram police have begun to take action against the hotels and guesthouses that are not registering their guests. The law enforcement officials have already taken actions against the guesthouses Old Delhi road, MG road Sector-14 and Udyog Vihar which are enrolling guests without valid registration. Their owners have been booked under the foreigner's act.

Taking cognizance of the proximity to Delhi, the law enforcement officials have communicated that they will survey all the guest houses so that the people staying in them are registered as per law. The significance of this exercise can be gauged from the fact that the Gurugram police commissioner is also involved in getting the updates from his team of officers regarding the issue. "As per the instructions of the Gurugram Police Commissioner KK Rao, intensive checking is being carried out across the hotels and guesthouses in Gurugram. There have been certain offenders that have been found and will be strictly dealt with," said Subash Bokan spokesperson of Gurugram police.

Moreover, Guest houses that are not registered with authorities continue to be a major problem in the city. With numerous visitors frequenting Gurugram daily, a large number of guest houses and PG'S have come up in the city over the years. An RTI reply last year revealed that there are more than two hundred guest-houses are operating illegally in the city. Many more guest-houses are believed to be functioning illegally as the list of illegal guest-houses mentioned in the RTI were in the areas under the jurisdiction of HUDA.

With MCG having not mentioned the number of illegal guesthouses functioning in its areas, the number of illegal guesthouses is only expected to be much larger than the present list.

Earlier, owners were not registering their guest houses in order to cut property taxes but these illegal guest houses have become a major hub for carrying out criminal activities.

Most of the arrests made during the bust of the illegal sex racket by Gurugram Police have been carried in these illegal guesthouses. Along with the sex rackets, these guesthouses, also act as home to drug cartels.
