Gurugram: Gurugram Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh has taken cognisance of large number of officers reportedly indulging in registration of illegal colonies and has a sought a report of such officers.
He also warned that such irregularities will not be tolerated and, if found guilty, strict action will be taken against such officers.
Recently, a case came to light where a property in Bajghera area was found to have been registered in the name of one Om Prakash, a man who had died in 1993. However, his relatives who coveted the land got it registered under the name of an imposter to encroach upon it.
There have been various cases where officers have registered land either by circumventing due process or conniving with land mafia.
Complaints are also made of people encroaching vacant spaces, turning them into residential plots and selling it to people at the rates much lower than the market rates prevailing in Gurugram.
A normal residential plot usually costs Rs 50,000 a square yard and above, while such illegal plots are sold for as low as Rs 16,000 per square yard.
The number of illegal colonies –mostly located in the city centre area – is now on the rise in the outskirts of the city as well.
Corrupt practices by officials were recently highlighted after a raid by the Chief Minister flying squad in the Haryana Urban Development Authority office.
