New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday felicitated women from different walks of life like social work, media, and NDMC officials as "Gender Champions", celebrating International Women's Day at its headquarters. Member of Council, Anita Arya was felicitated for her contribution towards furthering the fight for gender equality.
Speaking at the event, NDMC Secretary Rashmi Singh said that the council has taken multiple steps towards the development of the girl child. Citing some examples, she said that projects like the football academy for girls under 10 and special public toilets with sanitary napkin vending machines for women prove this resolve of the council.
The felicitation programme also included talks from expert doctors on health, hygiene, and economic empowerment; an exhibition of paintings on the same theme; and sales counter of daily use products made by women and girl students of social education centres.
