Gang of five involved in theft of luxury cars across various states busted

NEW DELHI: A team of Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a notorious inter-state gang of five auto lifters, operational in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh Region, who stole, changed the chassis number and procure documents of total loss accidental cars, and re-registered them to be sold further. 
The five arrested persons have been identified as Satbir, Vijay Gulati, Imran, Laxman and Abhilash.
During sustained interrogation of the arrested gang members, it also came to light that through their links in UP and Haryana, the accused used to procure documents for accidental/total loss vehicles from insurance companies, alongwith scrap, and after obtaining the documents of the said vehicle, they conveyed the details/built of the car to their associates, who are natives of Meerut.
As per their instructions, their associates would target the same make car/vehicle and deliver the stolen car to the accused.
After receiving the stolen car, to avoid the detection, they would paste a different registration number over the stolen car, which would match the particulars of accidental car procured by them.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar said, "Later, they used to tamper the engine number and chassis number of the stolen car and attach the engine number and chassis number of the total loss accidental car, with the help of their associate."
"After completing all the formalities, they used to sell the said car in the grey market. 20 high-end luxury cars have been recovered from their possession," the senior police officer added.
