New Delhi: Four minor boys drowned in Yamuna river on Sunday. The incident was reported from Palla village in Alipur area of Outer Delhi. Police claimed that two bodies were fetched out and it is being suspected that the kids had gone to take a bath. All the kids aged between 12 and 14 years hailed from a village situated in Haryana. Two of them are brothers.
For last seven hours, the rescue operation is going on. According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), they received a call around 7.30 am on Sunday after which several fire tenders rushed to the spot.
Police claimed seven kids from the same locality visited the spot in the morning and four of them went inside the canal but due to the depth of river they were unable to save themselves and drowned. The other three boys who had come with them started looking for their friends but they were not seen. They alerted the local residents and further, a PCR call was made to the cops. One of the boys told the cops that they had first planned to take a bath in the river near their house, but when they saw that the current was fast, they dropped the plan. They then decided to walk down to the riverside in Delhi.
Harish, the in-charge of boat club who is also helping in rescue operation claimed that they were informed by police and after which they started the search operation with more than 20 divers presently inside the river looking for two other bodies. "We fetched out two bodies and further we are searching for other two," said Kumar. When asked about the reason behind drowning, he claimed that there are many possibilities, one of them started drowning and the other three went to save him but in vain and boys also got drowned. Reasons behind the incident will be investigated by the police.
The family members told the cops that they had left home around 6 am. Recently the water level of the Yamuna river had crossed the danger mark.
