NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Wednesday said they have arrested four men who beat up an Ola cab driver and stole the vehicle.
Cops said the accused have been identified as Dharmabir Singh, Sunil Kumar, Pradeep Tomar and the gang's kingpin Arun Kumar, a resident of Harola Vilage in Noida, and recovered the stolen cab as well as a country-made pistol.
"On August 23, an Ola cab driver reported that he picked up two men from Sarai Kale Khan. When they reached Chhaprauli village in Uttar Pradesh, one of them asked the driver to stop the cab on the pretext that he had to urinate.
"As soon as the driver stopped the cab, the passenger sitting in the back throttled the driver's neck with a cloth while the other assaulted the driver with a pistol's butt and threw him out," DCP (South East) Chinmoy Biswal said on Wednesday.
Investigation revealed that the accused had switched off the cab's GPS device. Soon, details of the booking made by the accused were obtained from Ola, which led cops to zero in on Sunil Kumar, a resident of Noida.
Sunil soon spilled beans to the police and led to the other accused including Arun.
During investigation, Arun disclosed that he himself used to work as a driver for Ola. In the last three-four months, he became well-versed with the workings of the company and to earn quick money, hatched a plan to steal a cab.
