For clean Gurugram, MCG begins ward-wise special campaign

Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has begun several works under the ward-wise special campaign. Using cleanliness as a theme, the officials carried out several works such as cleaning the rainwater harvesting pits, removal of garbage from the vacant areas and also undertaking horticulture works at the Jharsa bund. The officials maintained that in the coming days, there will be more emphasis on cleaning the rainwater harvesting pits that will aid in enhancing the water table in the city.

There are over 125 pits that come under MCG. However, lack of proper maintenance and inability to check encroachments have ensured that these pits have not been of any utility. Last year, with the aid of a private organisation, the municipal body had started the process of cleaning the pits. However, in the later months, this exercise gradually fizzled out.

The district administration had also directed various private schools that have large areas to create water harvesting pits. This action was also not followed up in the past. Besides recharging the water levels, rainwater harvesting pits are also expected to improve the drainage system of the city that again is proving to be a major civic challenge in the Millennium City.

In order to connect better with the citizens in the 35 wards, the councillors and the senior officials of the municipal body are now visiting each and every ward understanding the problems of the citizens and trying to solve them.

Despite MCG undertaking a special initiative, there has been a complaint against the officials of the municipal body of not ensuring enough steps towards a garbage-free city. There are complaints of garbage being littered in various areas. The situation has only worsened with excessive water logging as most of the drains are choked with the garbage.
