A group of five gang members of the notorious Kapil-Jyoti Sangwan alias Nandu gang was arrested by Delhi Police on Sunday after a brief encounter when they were on their way to target the family members of jailed gangster Manjeet Mahal.

Three of them were also involved in the brutal murder of Manjeet's father Sri Krishan in January this year, said police.

The interrogation of the arrested revealed that members of the Manjeet Mahal gang murdered one Vikrant at Gurgoan and Dinesh Mangu at Chhawla, Delhi who belonged to Kapil-Jyoti Sangwan, Nandu gang. They did this to take revenge for the murder of the Manjeet's father. Going for the offensive, the Nandu gang decided to target yet another family member of Manjeet to scare him of further attacks.

"They had also planned to eliminate Manjeet while in judicial custody during the time he was to be produced in courts. They even planned to kill him when he attended the last rites of his father, but could not do so owing to the presence of cops." said Sanjeev Kumar, DCP Special Cell.

The sharp shooter of Kapil-Jyoti Sangwan, Nandu gang Krishan alias Bhalu was also carrying a reward of Rs 50,000.

The other four arrested gangsters are Anil Sharma alias Podi, Deepak Mann, Deepak Sharma and Pankaj Dagar.

A total of seven sophisticated semi-automatic weapons of different calibres, including a mini carbine gun, along with 75 live cartridges were recovered. Besides this, five fired bullet shells and a red colour Polo car has been seized from the spot, said cops.

There is a long history of gang wars in Najafgarh and adjoining areas of Delhi.

Several gangs are active in this area of the national Capital and the gang rivalry has stormed the public of Delhi time and again by sensational killing of members or family members of the rival gangs.
