New Delhi: The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the tenants of Delhi as the first smart prepaid electricity meter under the "Mukhyamanti Kirayedar Bijli Meter Yojana" was installed in Laxmi Nagar by Bombay Suburban Electric Supply (BSES).
The Delhi CM expressed his happiness on Tuesday when the first prepaid meter under the scheme "Mukhyamanti Kirayedar Bijli Meter Yojana" was installed. Kejriwal took to Twitter to express his happiness. He said, "Congratulations to the tenants of Delhi! Now the tenants of Delhi also started getting the country's cheapest electricity."
Under this scheme, tenants residing in Delhi can now avail power subsidy paying no bills for electricity up to 200 units. The AAP Government provides 50 per cent subsidy on bills for power consumption between 201 units and 400 units. To avail power subsidy, tenants can now get a prepaid meter using the rent agreement or rent receipt and the current address ID proof like electricity bill, an earlier report by Millennium Post had stated.
Kejriwal at a Press conference had said tenants were not able to get a separate power meter because they were required to take an No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the house owner in order to get an independent connection. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also expressed joy on the first installation of electricity meter for a tenant in the country's Capital.
In a tweet Sisodia said, "Congratulations to the tenants of Delhi. Now people living on rent can also avail cheap electricity, with a dedicated prepaid meter –a huge benefit limited to owners till CM Arvind Kejriwal extended it to all."
