New Delhi: The woman would dress up as a man to mislead unsuspecting victims, all the while as her male accomplice would snatch their cellphones and other valuables.
This she did so that when the victims would complain to cops, they would describe mistake her for a man and unwittingly give police a false description of the culprit.
However, Rani (name changed) and her accomplice Ramnik Singh did not have a long, successful run and were nabbed by West Delhi Police.
"Our team of Kirti Nagar (police station) arrested the duo. With their arrest, one country-made pistol with two live cartridges, Rs 78,000 in cash, two mobile phones, four wrist watches, six purses, documents, jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh, a Pulsar NS motorcycle and the attire used for concealing her identity have been recovered and nine cases have been worked out," said DCP (West) Vijay Singh on Friday.
Investigation revealed that Rani had previously been involved in eight cases of snatching and robbery.
After a woman was robbed off her purse by two persons on a motorcycle on January 13 in Kirti Nagar, she filed a police complaint.
"Footages of more than 37 CCTV cameras installed at Rama Road, Kirti Nagar, were thoroughly analysed for the relevant time period of the said robbery.
"It came to light that the snatchers were using sports bike and the pillion rider was a woman, but dressed in men's wear, hiding half of her face with the hood of a jacket and by wearing goggles," said the senior police official.
