Fate of AAP-Cong alliance hangs in balance

NEW DELHI: Amid reports of finalisation of four Lok Sabha candidates by the Congress party in Delhi, sources in both the parties said that there is only one option left for the alliance. The alliance between AAP and Congress in Delhi which has only one hope left which would be if Congress agrees to fight in two seats in Delhi and AAP will fight in other five, said the sources. According to the sources the negotiators from the side of AAP kept this in front of the Congress and the AAP in this formula in Delhi would be ready to accept no alliance in Haryana and Punjab.

"AAP is in power in Delhi and we are in opposition in Punjab, we have our self-respect. We have informed that we are ready to not make an alliance in Punjab, Haryana but in Delhi, we want to fight in five seats and Congress can fight in two seats," said a senior AAP leader. The AAP as the last communication made this clear to the Congress negotiators about this. However, Congress did not comment on this proposal. "The Congress was always ready for the alliance and we have negotiated with much respect despite the difference in opinion. If they agree on giving us three seats in Delhi then we are ready to announce the alliance," said a senior Congress leader.

Meanwhile, the confusion continues as the AAP on Wednesday took the stand that the party would not go ahead with the alliance talk anymore. "In Punjab, where we have four MPs and 20 MLAs, a single seat is not being given to us. In Chandigarh, where we got 1.30 lakh votes, they are not giving us a single seat. In Goa, where we got six per cent vote, no seats there either. In Delhi, where the Congress has no presence, they want to give us three seats," Sanjay Singh said on Wednesday. "AAP initiated because they know they are not able to defeat BJP on their own. They had finished a close second in the last municipal elections. We are ready to fight on our own and will finalise candidates for all seven seats by evening," said PC Chacko the AICC in-charge of Delhi.
