Gururgam: A 55-year-old family doctor has been arrested for attempting to rape the minor daughter of one of his client families.
The incident occurred at Sohna in the outskirts of Gurugram, cops said on Wednesday.
According to police, the doctor who knew the victim barged into their house late Tuesday night and tried to sexually assault the minor.
The girl, however, was saved in time, as she screamed out for help, which immediately prompted her family members in the next room to come to her rescue.
Police further claimed that the victim has alleged that the doctor even tried to bite her, which left a deep mark on her neck.
This is the second such incident where a person allegedly tried to barge into the house of a woman in order to sexually assault her.
Earlier, a 30-year-old widow alleged that a man tried to rape her after entering her house forcibly.
For a city where there were over 100 cases of sexual assault against minors in a year, law enforcement officials highlight the challenges in the conviction of the criminals.
Citing the difficulties, officials mention that there is a need to set up fast track courts so that the convictions can be done at a quicker rate.
Another difficulty raised by the officials in dealing with such crimes is gathering concrete evidence and making the victim and their family mentally and physically fit to testify in the court proceedings that can extend up to many years.
Officials also indicate that in over 80 per cent of the cases, the culprit knows the rape survivor well.
Therefore, in the long duration of the legal proceedings, families of the the victims seeks compromise and do not wish to carry on with the case.
