Greater Noida: Rash driving dashed the dreams of another family after a young engineering student of Galgotias University, who was travelling on a sports bike, lost control of the vehicle and died after it rammed into a divider near Delta-I roundabout in Greater Noida early Friday morning.
Aniket (21), a second year BTech student from Thane city of Maharashtra, was killed when he was riding a high-end motorbike, reportedly worth Rs 1.40 lakh and known to have very high acceleration.
He was living in a private hostel and, at the time of the incident, was returning to his hostel from a friend's place, said police.
"The incident occurred around 2:30 am on Friday near Delta-I petrol pump. The deceased was returning to his hostel. It seems like the bike was being driven at a very high speed when he lost control and rammed into a divider. He fell and suffered fatal injuries," said Pankaj Rai, station house officer, Surajpur police station.
Some passersby spotted the student and rushed him to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Police said they have informed the victim's parents and his body has been sent for post-mortem.
However, as the family members were in mourning, cops did not question them much. "No complaint has been received in the incident so far," Rai added.
A senior police official said that many youngsters drive sports bikes dangerously on Noida's broad roads, especially at night, putting lives of citizens as well as their own at risk.
