Elderly woman fends off drug addict, dies

New Delhi: A 65-year-old woman died in mysterious circumstances in North Delhi's Burari area after she saved her house from a drug addict who had an intention of stealing. Police claimed that they have not found any foul play in the incident as they suspect that the woman died due to her health issues. Police have arrested one man who was involved in the case.

Police claimed that the incident was reported on Monday after a drug addict named Kalu aged 26 years entered the house of the victim who was identified as Gayatri Devi, who lived in Sarai Rohilla area and used to put her tea stall in front of her house. "The woman with a help of a broom made sure that the drug addict Kalu left her house. Probably he had entered with the intention to steal," said Additional Deputy Commissioner (North) Harendra Kumar Singh.

In the meantime of all this happening, the elderly woman collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where she was declared brought dead. As per neighbours and family members, she was a heart patient and diabetic. Kalu was apprehended from the spot.

The data accessed by Millennium Post stated that last year, 134 persons were arrested for their involvement in crime against the senior citizen. Fifty-two persons were arrested for murder whereas 80 persons were arrested for robbery.

The latest data of the year 2018 till 15 April claimed that Delhi Police has arrested 17 persons involved in different types of crime against the senior citizen.

"Two persons were arrested for murder whereas 15 persons were nabbed for robbery," said the police data.
