New Delhi: Ahead of the Delhi University Students' Union election, students have started witnessing the electoral mood with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) forming a seven-member selection committee to finalise the names of candidates for DUSU election. DUSU elections will be held on September 12.
According to an ABVP member, "The team comprises Manu Kataria (State-President), Saket Bahuguna (State-Secretary), Rohit Chahal (National-Secretary), Aman Awana (President, DUSU), Ajay Thakur (Organizing State-Secretary), Bhupender Gothwal (State Vice-President) and Rajneesh Jindal (Zonal In-charge)."
He also added that in the first round, the committee has finalised nine candidates for the DUSU elections and in the second round, only four of them will be selected. From Tuesday, ABVP will launch their pre-election campaign under which possible candidates have been divided into four groups and will campaign across several colleges of Delhi University.
We will go among the students to discuss various issues. We will also inform the students that the Congress-led Government has not opened any new college in the last 17 years. As per elections schedule, September 3 is the last date for filing of nomination papers while candidates can withdraw their names till September 5, the member further added.
"ABVP members are active for the entire year and are also reachable for every student. That is the only reason our party is winning the DUSU polls for the last few years. Last year, we raised several student-related issues and concurred them. We raised the issue for GST free sanitary pads and to install the sanitary pad wending machine across various colleges. We believe that with the achievements of our previous year activities for the welfare of students, we will be voted to power once again," Khatana added.
