Dushyant Chautala writes to PM, suggests artificial rain to curb air pollution

Gurugram: Expressing concern over the health of citizens residing in Delhi-National Capital Region due to air pollution, Dushyant Chautala, the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, on Friday wrote a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the letter, the Deputy Chief Minister has suggested taking cognisance of extremely poor quality of air in the region the Central The government must evaluate the alternatives of cloud seeding plan that will create artificial rains. Chautala who is the MLA from Uchana Kalan cited that this alternative was suggested by IIT- Kanpur that has done a comprehensive study on the challenge of pollutions in Delhi-NCR.

Giving reference from the study, Chautala also highlighted that the concept of cloud seeding can only occur at a time of pre-existing clouds, the condition which prevails now.

"You are aware that Delhi and NCR have been under the clutches of intensive pollution throwing the region to be quite unfit. I would like to bring to your kind attention about the cloud seeding plan conceptualised by IIT Kanpur. The plan of the IIT- Kanpur is at standstill due to non-availability of technical support and aircraft from the Central Government," read the contents of the letter.

Like the national capital, the issue of pollution has also become a major concern for residents and political parties in Haryana. While the focus has been on Gurugram and Faridabad, situation of air pollution has been extremely bad in the areas of Panipat, Rohtak and even Karnal.

After registering air quality levels in the moderate category on Wednesday, the situation deteriorated in the city and on Friday. The air quality index according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) was registered at a very poor category of 306.
