New Delhi: Two youth died after their speeding vehicle hit a Delhi Police PCR van in Alipur area of outer Delhi in the wee hours of Sunday.
Police said that the duo was not wearing any helmet when the incident took place and said they have reason to believe that the two were going to Murthal when the incident took place.
The deceased youth were identified as Amarjeet (20) and Narender Choudhary (24).
Police also said that they two were preparing for civil services examination from an institute located in Mukherjee Nagar area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta said on Sunday that the incident came to light after a PCR call was received about the incident at 12.30 am.
The caller claimed that the a motorcycle, with two youth, hit a PCR van on the Singhu Border traffic signal at NH-1.
"A police team rushed to the spot and the victims were rushed to the hospital, where they were declared dead," said the DCP.
Cops said that around 11 pm, Amarjeet and Narender left their paying guest accommodation and were riding the bike at a relatively higher speed, when they suddenly crashed into the side of a vehicle.
"They hit the backside of a PCR vehicle and were flung into the air and received serious head injuries," police said.
A case was immediately registered at Alipur police station and investigation in the case was taken up.
Police said they are scanning the CCTV footage from the spot to ascertain the sequence of events and verify which vehicle hit the bike.
"Probe is also on the way whether both of them were under the influence of alcohol," said the senior police official.
Their families in Sonipat and Agra were informed and the bodies were handed over to them after post-mortem, cops said.
The four months of 2018 has witnessed more than 1,000 road accidents, in which over 400 persons lost their lives.
