New Delhi: In view of noise-related complaints from the residents who reside alongside the track of the Delhi Metro and to curb the noise pollutions coming from the metro, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has planned to install noise barriers at various areas in Delhi.
According to a resident of the Rohini sector 8, most of these places are having excessive noise pollution above the prescribed limits and the rumbling of the metro trains over the tracks multiply the pollution. Meanwhile, the Magenta line has come up as a boon for students of Jamia Millia Islamia University, with the university getting its own metro station. However, the rumbling of trains disrupt classroom studies.
Reacting to the rise in the level of noise, Delhi Metro has decided to put up noise barriers along the corridor at select locations from where complaints of noise pollution were received. The barriers will come up on the viaduct mainly between Jamia Millia Islamia University and Jasola Vihar stations. "The Jamila Milia Islamia University and various Residential Welfare Associations of Jasola Vihar and Noida Sector 44 have been requesting Delhi Metro to take suitable measures to mitigate the noise coming due to train operations on the viaduct," said another official. "The classrooms of Jamila Milia Islamia University are located on the both sides of the viaduct and similarly some of the residential colonies are also close."
"The noise barriers to be installed along the viaduct would be about two metres in height and framed in the galvanised steel frames," he added. Apart from this, the DMRC has also identified more locations to install noise barriers. "The Delhi Metro Rail corporatin is planning to install noise barriers at the same locations across the Metro network to control the noise pollution resulting from the plying of the metro trains. The step has been taken after constant monitoring of noise level at the specific locations," said a DMRC official. He also said that the locations have been identified as Rohini Sector 18, Sharkurpur, Rajouri Garden, Noida sector 62 and Haiderpur.
