Delhi Jal Board Vice Chairman Somnath Bharti inspected the Coronation Pillar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) on Wednesday with senior board officials.
During the visit, Bharti checked the monitoring room, lab, and section of the WWTP where the wastewater treatment takes place. He showed samples of sewage water coming into the WWTP and the treated water that comes out of the plant to the media, stating that the wastewater is being treated according to prescribed parameters. He also declared that the quality of treated water in this plant is almost equivalent to that of drinking water.
Bharti stated, “The Delhi government and the Delhi Jal Board would ensure that every drop of wastewater is treated before it spills into the Yamuna in its 22 kilometres stretch in Delhi. The Delhi government will fulfil Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s promise to clean the Yamuna, just as it has fulfilled other promises.”
Bharti further announced that the treated water from the Coronation Pillar WWTP would be reused in the future, and efforts are underway to incorporate the treated water into the system for reuse. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, all sources that make the Yamuna dirty are being tracked and trapped through WWTPs, and wastewater from these sources is treated according to the prescribed 10/10 parameters.
Bharti further said, “Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s track record shows that he has fulfilled his promises, including in education, power, health, and water sectors. The promise made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for the cleaning of the Yamuna river will also be fulfilled by the Delhi government, just like other promises that have been fulfilled.”
