DERC chairman Satyendra Singh Chauhan administered oath of office

NEW DELHI: Delhi Power minister Satyendar Jain on Thursday administered the oath of office and allegiance to Justice (Retired) Satyendra Singh Chauhan as Chairperson of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) in the presence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Chief Minister and Deputy CM greeted and congratulated Justice (Retired) Chauhan after he took the oath. It is pertinent to mention that the DERC's chairman seat was vacant since 21 September 2016.

Chauhan has been appointed by Lieutenant - Governor Anil Baijal, according to a letter issued by Delhi's Special Secretary, Power.

Chauhan, a Lucknow University law graduate, retired from the bench on July 4. At present, the commission has just one member, BP Singh. DERC is a Statutory body of Delhi government, which regulates all disputes of Discoms with respect to power supply in the City.

DERC is the capital's power regulator and is responsible for fixing tariffs, apart from making other important power-related decisions.
