NEW DELHI: Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday congratulated residents of Delhi for reduction in consumption of diesel for the year 2017, in comparison to previous years, which he said was an "indication of growing awareness towards curbing air pollution."
Sisodia's comments came at an event for the release of the Delhi Statistical Hand Book – 2017, prepared by the Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Delhi government.
"Consumption of diesel in Delhi has decreased from 15,08,000 metric tonne during 2015-16 to 12,67,000 metric tonne during 2016-17. On the other hand, consumption of petrol marginally increased from 9,02,000 metric tonne to 9,06,000 metric tonne during the same period," said Sisodia
A 10 per cent growth in the per capita income of Delhi for 2016-17 was observed, which Sisodia – who also holds the Finance portfolio – said is higher than the national growth rate.
The per capita income of Delhi for 2016-2017 is estimated at Rs 3,03,073 and increased by 10.76 from per cent from 2015-16, as compared to 9.7 at national level. The per capita income at the national level is Rs. 1,03,219 during 2016-2017.
The Deputy CM further said that the total number of new vehicles registered in Delhi was 7.78 lakh in 2016-17, including registration of 29,690 e-rickshaws.
The total number of registered vehicles in Delhi upto March 2017 was 1.05 crore. Of the total registered vehicles, the number of cars and jeeps was 31.53 lakh, while that of motorcycles and scooters was 67.08 lakh.
Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus services were availed by and average of 31.55 lakh passengers daily during 2016-17. The total strength of fleet of DTC buses is 4,027, of which 1,275 buses are air conditioned.
Meanwhile, the number of reported road accidents decreased from 8,085 during 2015 to 7,375 during the year 2016.
Sisodia said the total number of telephones in Delhi service area, as on November 30, 2016, was 5.23 crore. Of these, the number of wire line telephones was 32.07 lakh and wireless telephones was 4.91 crore.
The minimum rates of monthly wages increased from Rs 9,568 in April 2016 to Rs. 13,350 in April 2017 for the unskilled category of workers, from Rs 10,582 to Rs 14,698 for semi-skilled workers, and from Rs 11,622 to Rs 16,182 for skilled workers.
The total number of electricity consumers increased from 52.63 lakh in 2015-16 to 55.68 lakh in 2016-17. Out of the total electricity consumers, 45.37 lakh were domestic, 9.27 lakh commercial and 52,397 industrial.
The total number of metered water connections increased from 19.49 lakh in 2015-16 to 23.16 lakh in 2016-17. The water consumption is 14,914 lakh kilo litres in 2016-17.
