NEW DELHI: In the wake of consecutive murders and a rising issue of law and order ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, the Ministry of Home Affairs has gone into an early election mode and ordered a major change in the Delhi police administration.

Delhi Police Headquarters states that 16 officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) have been transferred. The transfers have been formalised through orders issued by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora’s office. Furthermore, 30 Station House Officers (SHOs) have been shifted to new positions, indicating a full administrative revamp. The reshuffle comes as an ongoing tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been going on over the state of law and order in the capital. The AAP has been repeatedly accusing the Central Government, particularly Home Minister Amit Shah, of raising questions about the proper functioning of Delhi Police. The large-scale transfers have been done in ranks ACP to SHO and Inspector.
