New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday created a green corridor from IGI Airport to Escorts Hospital in Okhla for transportation of an organ. The corridor was of a distance of 22.5 km which was covered in 19 minutes and 30 seconds.
According to police, on November 12 flight from Vijaywada landed at T-3 in IGI airport carrying a live human heart to be transported to the hospital in Okhla for transplantation. According to police, the heart was to be transplanted within five to six hours of its retrieval from the donor to the recipient and valuable initial three hours were already gone.
Police further added that entry of heavy goods vehicles from the neighbouring states were also a concern as the route from IGI airport to the hospital was falling in the same route which experiences traffic serge due to sudden increased movement of such heavy commercial vehicles.
"Considering all the challenges meticulous planning and strategic deployment was done under the supervision of traffic inspector (Saket) to create a special green corridor for the ambulance carrying the organ," police said. During this green corridor operation, a distance of 22.5 km was covered in a record timing of 19 minutes and 30 seconds causing the least inconvenience to other road users.
