NEW DELHI: In a dedicated effort to curb the drug menace, Delhi Police as per directions of the Juvenile Justice Committee, Delhi High Court, on Friday organised a 'Symposium' on the growing menace and easy availability of drugs to juveniles, and the means and measures needed to curb the supply.
The aim was to bring together all stakeholder agencies to make coordination and cooperation better to result in closing the gaps in the effort of drug supply reduction in the city.
Arul Varma, Pr. Magistrate, JJB–I made a presentation before the officers of Directorate of Prosecution, Narcotics Control Bureau, Drug Controllers of Govt. of NCT of Delhi and senior formation of Delhi Police. This was followed by an 'Open House' discussion with all the stakeholders regarding the practical implementation of the laws and the issues and roadblocks.
The symposium saw the passionate exchange of views where participants discussed the means, methods and policies required to control this menace, especially amongst juveniles.
The agencies discussed threadbare lacunae faced by all and how inter-agency collaboration would bring about better results in curbing drugs on the streets. There were various concerns raised by the authorities regarding the practical aspects of the NDPS Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act, and how a synergetic relationship between all parties was required to combat the war on drugs, with particular reference to Juveniles. Delhi Police Joint CP Devesh Srivastava was also present on the occassion.
